About Heather
Comedy Author | Screenwriter | Storyteller
I’m Heather Smith, though you may also know me as the comedy author, Heather Hill. My career began on the live comedy circuits of Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, writing jokes, one-liners and sketches for award-winning stand-ups and household names across the Scottish comedy scene.
After being named one of Huffpost UK’s "Fifty Funny Women to Follow on Twitter," I began to imagine I could write comedy, so moved into books and screenwriting, where I continue to explore the intersection of humour and human emotion.
The Novelist (as Heather Hill)
I am the author of three novels that use comedy as a leveller to explore taboo, poignant and often surreal subjects through a lens of sharp wit and unapologetic honesty.
* The New Mrs D: An Amazon No. 1 Bestseller (previously published by Fledgling Press).
I also wrote a children's novella many moons ago, that I just made live and available again on Amazon, entitled Toads May Talk under the pen name, Heather Hall.
Journalism and Public Voice
My writing has appeared in Psychologies Magazine and The Scotsman, where I was named one of Scotland’s 200 most remarkable voices.
Screen & Film
In 2019, I was awarded a BBC Scotland scholarship for the MA in Television Fiction Writing at Glasgow Caledonian University. My portfolio spans television pilots and feature film scripts that include:
* Fear of Driving (Feature Film) – a darkly comedic quest for adventure, acceptance and healing through loss.
* Catharsis (TV Pilot): A 30-minute traumedy about an uneasy, hilarious communal survival-fest that proves healing is rarely linear.
* Surface (TV Drama): A sixty-minute drama exploring the complexities of depression and suicide.
* Accidentally Brilliant (Sitcom): A culture-clash comedy set on a remote Scottish island where unlikely alliances and accidental wisdom challenge long-held traditions.
Two Names, One Voice
Whether you know me as Heather Smith, screenwriter and blogger or Heather Hill, comedy writer and author, my aim is to tell stories that resonate and heal.
